During the treatment process, high-pressure saturated steam directly contacts the carcass tissue. As it condenses into water, it releases a large amount of heat energy, melting fat and solidifying proteins. Simultaneously, the high temperature and high pressure completely kill pathogens. The resulting residue is animal oil and fat, which can be further refined into biodiesel. The residue can be processed with animal manure or fermented in a biogas digester.
